August 26th – Day of recognition of independence of Abkhazia.

August 26th 2008 has become a benchmark for the new history of Abkhazia. At this day, the people of Abkhazia received the so long aspired independence.

At three o’clock in the afternoon, the President of the Russian Federation Mr. Dmitri Medvedev declared the decision of Russia to recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

After the recognition two countries have established official relations and signed a number of cooperation treaties which became the starting point for the development of the bilateral cooperation in all spheres of modern lives of our countries. The Russian decision was later followed by: Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, Vanuatu and Tuvalu.

26th of August is remarkable day in the history of Abkhazia.
